Madrid (2 nights)
Your luxury tour of Spain begins in Madrid, a city founded by the Moors in the 9th century and known today for its rich royal history and world-class art museums. Upon arrival, your personal host will greet you and take you on a historical tour of Madrid by private transfer. As you journey through the city, you’ll discover more about Madrid’s rich history and royal heritage, as well as its urban and architectural evolution. You’ll visit some of Madrid’s well known landmarks, such as the baroque Plaza Mayor, the neoclassical Puerta de Alcalá and the Fuente de Cibeles. Continue your privately guided tour to the Royal Palace of Madrid to learn about the history of this iconic building and the importance of the Spanish monarchy. In the evening, savor your first taste of authentic Spanish cuisine at one of Madrid’s best restaurants.
The following day, enjoy exclusive access to the Prado museum, one of the most important art museums in the world. You will have the option to enjoy a private tour of the museum and see the iconic masterpieces before it opens to the general public. Then, visit museums like the Reina Sofia, home to Picasso’s masterpiece “Guernica,” or the Thyssen Museum, whose collection spans centuries of art history. Continue your bespoke tour of Madrid with a delicious tapas food tour, with the chance to sample some of Spain’s most famous dishes. Spend your afternoon at leisure or visit some more of the capital’s magical highlights.
San Sebastián (3 nights)
In the morning, take a direct flight to Bilbao. After lunch at a recommended local restaurant, visit the Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum for a privately guided tour. Continue your luxury tour of the Basque Country with a private transfer to San Sebastián. In the evening, after settling into your luxury accommodation, depart on a delicious pintxos tour, visiting various pintxos bars and sampling traditional Basque food for dinner.
The following day, embark on a breathtaking outdoor adventure along part of the Northern Route of the Camino de Santiago to appreciate the mountainous landscape of the Basque Country. Your expert guide will take you on a coastal hike with views of the beautiful beaches in San Sebastian, before climbing up the Monte Ulia for spectacular vistas of the city below. Spend your afternoon at leisure, with the option to either visit San Sebastian ́s two main beaches (Playa de la Concha and Playa de la Zurriola) or visit the Chillida Leku Museum, home to the most comprehensive collection of sculptures by Eduardo Chillida. In the evening, dine at one of the charming Basque eateries that perfectly showcase the region’s innovative cuisine.
The next day, continue your luxury Basque Country tour with another picturesque walk, this time along the coast to Peine del Viento, an installation by the famous Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida. Afterwards, visit a nearby bodega and Txakoli (a wine synonymous with the region) producer, for a tour and Txakoli tasting. In the afternoon, continue on to Getaria, a small fishing village that is best known as the birthplace of fashion designer Cristobal Balenciaga. Spend your afternoon at leisure before enjoying a delicious dinner in one of the Michelin-starred restaurants in the Basque Country.
La Rioja (2 nights)
Leave the Basque Country and head to La Rioja by private transfer to continue your private tour of Spain. On route, stop in the Basque city of Pamplona for a sightseeing tour with your expert guide, stopping for coffee at one of Ernest Hemingway’s favorite cafes. Then, continue through the beautiful countryside where you will begin a hike along another portion of the Camino de Santiago. Upon arrival at the Romanesque church of Eunate, you’ll enjoy a delicious picnic lunch. Continue to your luxurious accommodations in La Rioja and enjoy the remainder of your afternoon at leisure. While at your luxury hotel, take advantage of the indoor swimming pool, Finnish sauna and fitness center, or indulge in a hammam or spa treatment.
On the last full day of your luxury Spain tour, visit the Remirez de Ganuza bodega for a private tour and wine tasting. Then, continue to Launa where you will enjoy a private visit to the vineyards and bodega, as well as a wine tasting and lunch. Return to your luxury hotel to relax at leisure before your final dinner.
On the final morning of your private Spain tour, take a private transfer to Bilbao airport for your flight to Madrid, where you will begin your journey home.
